Goals

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other RHYNE researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.

Task List

1) Most of the RHYNES included here will be descendants of the Palatine immigrant Jacob Rein whose descendants invariably spelled their surname RHYNE. This particular pioneer settled on Upper Holye's Creek in what is now Gaston County, North Carolina. His surname in records shows as Rine (his signature on his will) and Rhine (the clerk's endorsement on the will).

2) Connect RHYNE families to each other and to our Shared Tree.

3) Properly source all profiles with full biographies connected to the RHYNE Name Study.

Places named Rhyne

There existed at one time a place named Rhyne in Paw Creek Township, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, where the present Rhyne Road meets Mt. Holly Road, two miles from the Catawba River. This place was named after a homeowner at that spot, Hugh Thomas Rhyne. Hugh build a home there about 1878 which was demolished around 1995. In the 1930s, a train stop between Mt. Holly and Charlotte was established there, and the area surrounding it became known as Rhyne's Station.

An old map of the area lists the name Rhyne, indicating the community around Hugh's home.

There are many more roads name RHYNE in Gaston County where the prominence of the name is noted: Rhyne Street, North Rhyne Street, Rhyne Place, etc.

Famous Rhynes

Er... none that I can find, though a pair of professional athletes have it as a forename.
